Decent for the price range Oct 10, 2008 The MRT3 is a great piece of equipment for the beginner drum machine enthusiast. For bass and guitar players alike it can truely be invaluable during practices or for when the garage band is lacking a true drummer. Its fairly easy to program and lay down beats with, however its biggest downfall is a lack of quality drum sounds. Once you find or compile a set you like, you will have no need to use any of the other included ones because they are pretty crappy.
The batteries last for a long time but I always recommend picking up a generic phillips AC adapter for when you can play plugged in. Midi capabilities are nice for outputting sounds to a different device (IE Midi controller or PC interface) although most users will seldom use that feature.
Besides that, take the time to read and understand the manual, but if your looking for more realistic drum sounds, look elsewhere.
Excellent, Easy to Use, Drum Machine Sep 11, 2008 Great machine for practice and beginners.
My Alesis drum machine died after 10 years. I'm a bass player, and use my drum machine strictly for practice. The Alesis was an excellent machine, but wasn't as user friendly as the Zoom MRT3. The Zoom has many more preset patterns, and I found programming my own pattern was easier than the Alesis.
Also hooking it up to my sterio required only one adapter (The Alesis needed left and right adapters seperately), which makes life easier when switching from my Ipod to the drum machine.
Maybe the Alesis sounded a little better, and had more functions for using it to accompany songwriting/playing. But the Zoom MRT3, is much better for an out of the box practice drum machine. (dont forget your 4AA batteries!)

Nice feature set Jun 22, 2008 Purchased for my son. Had to help interpret the manual as it is not clear in all areas. Once he used it for a few days it seemed to do all he needed so I rate it a full 5 stars. Had a question for tech support and they answered email faster than most companies.
