4Great low priced mic  Jul 22, 2010
I'm a long time classical musician finally recording some of my performance, at a completely novice level. I bought this mic because I was looking for a USB interfaced mic which worked with Linux (ubuntu) and Audacity. There are absolutely better audio programs out there, but I was starting on the absolute cheap.

I couldn't be happier with this mic, it performs well against my newer setup (roland UA-25EX with a more expensive condenser mic) and the flexibility of the USB interface is awesome.

2Customer service pretty lacking.  Jun 21, 2010
The microphone developed a crackling noise a few months after purchase, and customer service was no help in resolving the issue. They wouldn't even pick up the phone.

5Studio quality sound at a good price  May 15, 2010
A voice job came up fast and I had no access to a studio so I decided to try the Samson. A more elaborate set up would be fun, say a really nice condenser and power supply or cardioid with a mixer w/USB output to the computer but that could wait and this project could not. It didn't matter if this mic was a toy, if it sounded halfway decent, we'd be in business. Having worked with several great studio mics, I was a little aprehensive at first. Yes, you usually get what you pay for but this is a wonderful exception, I'm happy to say. The mic feels like quality and is simple to set up. Just unpack it, plug it in and the little light on it comes on, telling you it's working with power. No problem with the Mac seeing it instantly. Painless so far. I, like many other Mac users, decided to use Garage Band software. It's somewhat basic but for voicers, it would be perfect and is simple to edit. After a somewhat lengthy setup with the software and plugging in the Samson, it was clear this would be an easy job. Laying down some sample tracks, the mic didn't just perform, it excelled! It has a few proximity quirks but what mic doesn't? Once you learn how it performs, you can do some fun stuff with it. I immediately noticed how well it rejected distant noise or things outside my make shift "studio". The bass, mid and treble are very natural and the end product was very satisfying to the point where The project came out better than I expected. You can put together a great budget studio using the CO1U. This thing is definitely not a toy. It's worth every penny if not more. For serious studio work, you just can't beat it for the price. It even sounds better than the EV RE-20 I'd used for years. It may not outperform a high priced Neumann, Sennheiser, or Heil but not by much. That's how well it worked. Just can't say enough good about it and the client loved the finished product. That's all I needed to know. The only bummer is the little tripod stand. You'll want a boom for it. Pros: great sound, easy setup, quality made. Cons: Other than the supplied stand, none. Bottom line: Don't hesitate to buy it. You be very happy with your purchase.

5Close to radio station studio quality  Apr 28, 2010
I use it for my internet radio show that you can find at [...]. I have 8 years of broadcast on-air and production experience and I think it sounds close to studio quality. A friend of mine, with 30+ years experience, who is program director at KMAS told me how good it sounds. The Samson is plugged directly into a USB port and run through the Windows 7 built-in mixer into Audacity. This has nothing to do with the quality of the mic itself but when I was using XP I got a finer level adjustment by using the SoftPre program (downloaded from Samson's website) but it doesn't work with 7. Like an earlier review said the problem is the software, not the mic, and I had a slightly different experience than he did. Hearing is believing, give it a listen at [...]

3Good Mic  Apr 01, 2010
I love to use this Mic when I was working on Win XP where you can use the add on Soft Pre software with this Mic, but after Vista and Windows7 it is not more possible , they did not updated the software and the recording quality is not what I need. This Mic works without any software at all but I am tired of jumping to the Control Panel and back to the the right volumes . It pick up everything , even the noises when you record instruments , record better male vocals as female . I give it 3 stars just because they did not updated the add-on software that this mic need so badly .
I ordered new Audio technica mic that record crystal clear everything I need without any noises and have beautiful design and I guess it would be my number one for now . It works like that.. a microphone is so unique as your voice, one mic will not record all different vocals the same way , for one person it works for other it don't, it is important to find the right mic for you..
