V-Fire features two R-BUS and two FireWire ports for 16 channels of digital audio to stream at up to 24-bit/96kHz. It also comes with a software control panel enabling the user to select the sample rate (44.1 - 96kHz), latency, buffer size, and clock source. | | | |

About time! Roland gear gets computer access! Mar 02, 2007 Great addition to most studio setups. The equipment itself is small (about the same size as half a sheet of writing paper) and doesn't weight much.
The unit comes with ext. power supply (yes, another wall wart) but if your computer has a six-pin FireWire port, then your computer supplies power and you won't need this. I have a Mac, so was lucky - if you have a certain PCs (or a PC laptop), you may find you only have a four pin IEEE 1394 and so will need to attach the 16v DC transformer.
Software was easy to install (required a reboot). Unit comes supplied with one FireWire cable and an R-BUS (though the unit can take two R-BUS cables, depending on your Roland equipment you're planning to hook up).
Supported sample rates are 44.1, 48, 88.2 and 96 kHz (beware though that some Roland equipment like my vm-3100 Pro only allows 44.1 kHz, however my xv-5080, vsr-880, vs-2400 cd and so-on don't have such restrictions). Also, the xv-5080 synth only supports audio outputs via R-BUS (not inputs).
The unit doesn't come with any free or LE edition software, so you'd better already have your own. Quality seems pretty good too (my unit was made in China).
