Not for home use Oct 10, 2008 To be fair, this is a solid product. I decided on buying one after months of research--by comparing the published specifications of this product vs. other amplifiers. Sadly, I did not go to the local store to examine an actual one.
I bought it online. When it arrived, I was shocked by how loud the fan is. This product's owner's manual says the unit is "extremely quiet", maybe that is to compare this product with other professional amplifiers. This unit is extremely noisy in a home setting. I can hear the fan running at 40 feet away! It is very distracting and ruins your entire experience of critical music listening.
I called PV technical support and was told the fan noise level is normal. They said for such an amplifier, a fan like that is necessary, and that this amplifier is not meant for home use.
So, you are warned! Don't buy it for home use. For professional use, I suspect this is still a great unit. It is built like a rock.
