Finale is my computer-software friend Apr 09, 2008 If friends could come in a box, this program would be one. As both a middle school music teacher and a church musician & arranger, Finale PrintMusic has been a valued program on my computer for years. 2007's version is excellent. Finale actually considers the box you see to be 2006, so when I ordered mine, it came in a red & yellow box. Both are easy, but I prefer 2007 because of the overhaul in the cut & paste feature, making it more like cutting & pasting in an average Word document. An excellent buy!

Finale Print Music Definitely Not The Last Word Dec 30, 2007 I bought it for its sheet music scanning feature since I am often asked to transpose music to lower keys for fellow choir members whose range "just ain't what it used to be". Scanning works but it accepts only black and white tif files. It was difficult to insure black and white scans. Once the scans were made, the resultant transcriptions contained numerous errors(about one third of the entries). Many editing features are quirky and the help files are not easy to use since they are organized in a "user's manual descriptive" format(Who reads a Manual cover to cover before using anything, except possibly a chain saw?). On the plus side, it does display bar lines below and above the staff, making insertion of these notes easier than with Noteworthy Composer.
The numerous scan errors make it difficult to justify the increased price(double)that of Noteworthy Composer.

Good program overall, but a bit of a pain if you have to reload Dec 15, 2007 Overall I find that manual entry into the program is simple. Playback feature is nice, as I have used this for re-arranging pieces for my flute choir (to suit abilities) and I can listen for problem areas before having the choir play the pieces. I have been a bit disappointed with the scanning recognition - seems to be about 65% accurate with simple pieces but misses a lot if you get into dotted rhythms or 16th notes. Scanning does not work for grace notes, instrument cues, or ornaments. One other annoyance for me is that the licensing needs to be redone if you have to reload the program (disc failure, reformat, etc). Being out of the US, this was a bit tedious for me. MS Office used to have this kind of security, but manages to allow reloading of the software now. It would sure be nice if Finale was so simple...

Improved product Oct 25, 2007 This is the third version I've bought of Print Music. As a performing musician, I use it to write the music for fellow band members. It's generally a highly capable product. I enter via a mouse--not a musical keyboard. Entry is user-friendly, especially since they've refined entering triplets. A major feature is the ability to transpose an entire song in two key strokes. This is fabulous if you have a song written in Bb that your singer can only sing in F#. They are still a few quirks--I'd like to change the print colors but can't; as you enter the last measure in a line, the program bounces you between lines--it's hard to describe, but it's truly annoying. This product is well worth the price.

musical notation Oct 15, 2007 Great entry level software for writing out songs and parts. The selection of instruments in the templates could offer a bit more than is available but that is a minor point I suppose.
