Excellent sound Nov 17, 2008 Excellent sound coming from these strings even with age. However I've had three incidents of either being on stage or radio where one of the strings broke on me. Sound quality +10, reliability +4. I love how they sound so I record with them, I just don't trust them when I'm performing live.
These babies last forever! Nov 07, 2008 I've used a few different brands of strings in my 17 years playing the guitar. I had settled on GHS Boomers, which were probably my favorites up until a few months ago. Then a guy at Guitar Center recommended these Elixir strings when I complained about my Boomers only lasting two weeks or so with regular playing.
They really do last for months without losing their tone or starting to accumulate gunk. I had long been in the habit of washing my hands any time I wanted to play some guitar, and I also wipe the strings down after playing, but regular strings just tend to get gunked-up too soon no matter how well I care for them. These, though, they're still shiny and new after two months. I wipe them down maybe once a week.
I've got no major complaints about the way they sound, but I'll admit they don't sound as good as a brand-new pair of Boomers. The difference is slight, but it's noticeable to me. That said, Boomers (and any other brand) usually only sound great for two or three days, then they start to build up gunk and lose their tone completely within a week or two. A very slight sacrifice in tone, and I get about 10 times the life out of these strings. (Actually, I don't know how much life I'll get out of them. I'm still on my first set. I can see them lasting six months before I absolutely have to change them.)
Very good. Hard to know when to change them. Aug 14, 2008 I really like these strings, because I have sweaty hands that tend to make the strings on my guitars corrode and rust very fast. I can play a guitar once, and leave it there for 2-3 weeks, and the strings will be rusty and nasty when I return to it. I now rub down the strings thoroughly after each session playing them, but this stil happens.
Then I happened across these Elixir nanowebs. They are great. I no longer need to rub down my strings so thoroughly, and they stay rust and gunk-free for 2+ weeks (of regular playing). However, I did encounter one strange thing. While playing at a rehearsal, my E-string just popped and broke, hurting my finger a bit. I was surprised, because outwardly the string didn't look that bad.
So that is the downside. With regular strings, you can tell the string is near the end of its life b/c it looks really bad. With these, they may still look okay but be close to breaking. Made me a little cautious.
I still prefer these 100% over other strings, though.
Incredibly long lifespan Jun 24, 2008 I started using these strings about 2 or 3 years ago when I started to get sick of replacing my strings every week or two. I've had these strings last months before on my guitar, they endure some severe beatings and I think they sound better once they're settled in for a while anyway. These are honestly some of the best strings I've ever used, and they're much more worth buying than the cheapo strings because you end up paying more to replace those so often. The feel, sound, and overall quality of these strings is excellent, so if you're looking for a new brand of strings to rely on, Elixir is the way to go.
Highly Recommend Jun 20, 2008 My husband has been playing guitar for ten years now, and these are the only strings he'll use.
