The 520's Blow away most under $700. bucks!! Feb 10, 2008 These monitors sound great! I checked out a lot of other speakers in the size range and these won by far. I went in with a $600. budget and checked out M-Audio Bx5a's and Bx8a's, Mackies, KRK Rockit 5's and 8's, and Yamaha of the same size. GC didn't even have these hooked up! The yamaha's sounded pretty good and were better thean the speakers listed but, were a little bright and had no low end. The Rockits 8's were the best in bass response but, too expensive and overall, not my favorites. The Mackies were by far the muddiest and the Bx5a's were really rather dull lacking any clear hi or lows. Actually, I left the store upset..thinking I would get the M-Audio Bx8a's at some point but, wanted to check out some others first. Glad I did. Went to a little local store and found the Alesis M1 520's!! Played them against Samsons and the winner was clear!! These sounded better thean anything I heard under $700.!! Crisp, clear highs, great Mids and very decent bass for a 5" woofer. I immediatly am picking out things in my mixes I never heard before. And for $199.!!! Wow...They have adjustments on the back for Hi, Mid, Bass, & Gain. Alight on top to remind you to turn them off and the light actually turns red if you are overloading peak levels! They even come with power cords!! All of these features cannot be found together on any of the competitors products. I am very very pleased with this purchase. In the future I may get a small sub or a pair of larger speakers as I work a lot with Bass and these sound great but are obviously only 5" and you can't expect them to be booming although they do a great job. For now these will do just fine and I plan to use them as long as they will allow. Don't even bother checking out any others, same the time and just buy these. I mean until you get into Adams or someting of the 'just under a grand' price range, you can'e come close to these!!

Beautiful Sound, Great Quality Jul 03, 2007 Great sound out of this monitors, Nice bass response from 50hz and up, Sharp and clear Mids and brights, Built like tanks! they weight a lot!
Very flat sound, i could get a really nice mix out of them which is very translatable! 100% Recommended!
The only thing i really think it misses is to have a frontal volume control, but it's pretty easy to set them up on the back, don't let this change your mind on this monitors, they sound loud enough to bother the neighbors!
